SHoP Architects and Studio O+A have unveiled designs for a new Uber headquarters in San Francisco. Planned to rise on a 14-acre vacant site in the city's Mission Bay neighborhood, the 423,000 square-foot scheme will consist of two towers: an 11‐story tower at 1455 Third Street and a 6‐story structure at 1515 Third Street.

The mixed-use plan aims to integrate itself into the dense context by programming retail on the ground floor and providing public amenities and streetscape improvements to the adjacent Pierpoint Lane - an intersecting pedestrian way. This will be enhanced by a feature known as "the Commons" that will encompass the building's network of circulation and gathering spaces.

"The Commons will form the essential circulation of the eleven‐story structure, crossing above Pierpoint Lane as three angling glass‐and‐steel bridges - an homage to the neighborhood's history as a center for shipping and commerce," describes SHoP.

Inside, the building plans to move away from the open plan and work as a series of "small neighborhoods" that are accessed by shared support and collaborative work zones.

Up to 3,000 Uber employees will inhabit the facility upon its opening in early 2018.
